HOW WE MAKE OUR BUBBLES...
Like all things that look simple, they are often the opposite. Taking time and effort to develop. With a whole lot of trial and error!
Our flow bowls start life as liquid porcelain, or slip. This is poured into our moulds which have been created from my original pieces. The plaster moulds absorb the moisture from the slip and the clay dries.
The piece is then hand finished and given its first firing.
I love how these pieces look in their raw state, unfinished and unglazed. so elegant
Its then time to start blowing bubbles!
We use a cobalt blue stain that at first is lilac when unfired. Bubbles are carefully blown across the surface of the bisqueware, following the form and settling with a satisfying pop!
These pieces are then fired again before being glazed with a glossy transparent glaze, they then get their final firing to a temperature of 1220C
The pieces are bright blue when they come out of the kiln and are ready to leave our factory and head to your home and onto your dining table
