Breakfast is all about possibilities. You can have it in bed, on the go, at a meeting or not at all. But a beautifully served breakfast will lift the spirits and start the day in the best possible way. Here are my simple rules for elevating the "most important meal of the day" into something more joyous than a grab and go.
DON'T SAVE ANYTHING FOR BEST - I'm a firm believer in dressing your table even at breakfast time with lovely tableware and linens. Don't save the best things for when you have guests. There's huge joy to be had in enjoying lovely tableware everyday. And don't forget all of our ceramics are dishwasher safe (and our linens can be washed in the machine). Even some simple pastries in the garden can be elevated into a blissful start to the day
DECANT AND DISPLAY - Rather than a hastily placed tub of butter, jam jar or litre of milk, try decanting breakfast staples into interesting vessels. My small flow bowls are a great way to serve jams and marmalade but they also make the perfect sized bowls for yoghurt and muesli.
Also really useful for the breakfast table are my pitchers which as well as being a perfectly proportioned vase, are also a lovely way to serve freshly squeezed orange juice.
DON'T FORGET TO ADD SOME FLOWERS - You all know how much I love a bud vase which is the perfect finishing touch to a breakfast table or tray brought to a bedroom. Pastel anemones which are in season now look beautiful in my Ursula bud vase and can be repositioned back on the kitchen table once the croissant crumbs are cleared away.
Happy Breakfasting and Happy Bank Holiday Weekend!
This pretty rattan tray from M & S is the perfect size for serving breakfast in bed. It's also lovely for canapes or drinks. I love the scallop edge and green trim.
My favourite London deli, Panzer's now makes the most delicious picnic hampers. Perfect for two people for an indulgent sunny afternoon in the park or a quiet getaway. The deluxe hamper comes with hand-sliced smoked salmon and the most delicious bagels you're ever likely to taste. And everything comes packed in Panzer's charming hessian bag for life.
I love these lemon motif glass tumblers from John Lewis which have just launched. Perfect for al fresco lunches or for serving home made lemonade on a sunny afternoon in the garden. And they are a great price too.
I adore Sian Esther's collection of pyjamas which are as stylish as they are comfortable. These stripey summer pyjamas are made from the softest cotton/ linen blend and are a really flattering cut. And I love the detail of the scalloped edging on the shorts and pockets. They are the perfect summer weekend indulgence for lazy mornings.
