How to make a great Negroni

A Negroni is a classic and I love serving it for lunches, suppers or parties.

If you're having friends over, a great trick I learnt from my friend, cookery writer Skye McAlpine is to make a batch ahead of time, so when everyone arrives all you have to do is pour it into a glass , rather than fussing about mixing individual cocktails.

And while a cocktail shaker is of course the most elegant way to shake everything together, I have found making it in a clean glass bottle is more practical. Then you simply store it in the freezer for about 30 minutes or until you're ready to transfer your Negroni into an ice filled jug or in my case, one of my pitchers.

RECIPE

Ingredients:

250 ml dry gin

250 ml Campari

250 ml sweet red vermouth

Ice

Half an orange sliced finely

HOW TO

Combine the gin, Campari and vermouth in a cocktail shaker (or bottle) and shake for a minute or so. Store in the freezer for at least 30 minutes (the alcohol means it won't freeze).

When you're ready to serve, fill a large jug or pitcher with ice and orange slices and pour over the Negroni.

And to go with cocktails I always like to serve something easy to nibble on like olives or roasted almonds in my mini flow bowls which are the perfect aperitivi size!

Cheers!
