A Showstopping Halloween!

The last few months of the year always present plenty of hosting opportunities be it Thanksgiving, Hannukah and Christmas.  But let's not overlook the great decorating potential of a spooky yet stylish All Hallow's Eve dinner to set the tone for the festivities ahead.

Never the minimalist, here's my checklist for this year's gothic glam dinner chez Deborah Brett with bows, bronze and plenty of burgundy. Halloween is most certainly not reserved for trick or treating at Casa Brett!

BE BOLD WITH BURGUNDY - The deep rich hues of burgundy and bordeaux reds for any autumnal celebration cannot be beaten in my opinion. And it's such a fitting colour for a spooky Halloween celebration. My burgundy Bubble pitchers filled with blood red cranberry juice nestled amongst candles, dahlias and budvases set the scene perfectly for a feast to remember.

ADD BOWS AND BRONZE - A bow adds opulence and a touch of fun to whatever it's wrapped around be it a pumpkin, candle or a budvase.

I stock up on ribbons whenever I see ones I like, but Amazon has a pretty good selection too. I always choose a mix of co-ordinating colours. I love this cerise shade paired with the deep bronze ribbon I've chosen here.

And as you can see, I've spray painted a few pumpkins in bronze which adds a touch of glamour to the earthy tones of the regular offerings from the pumpkin patch.

And note how useful  my cakestands are to display your pumpkin works of art - whether sprayed, carved or just adorned with  ribbons like mine.

FLOW BOWLS AND FLOWERS - My Flow Bowls are invaluable when I'm setting a table whether used for salads, soups or starters. For Halloween, I like to leave a few empty ones in various sizes dotted around on the table to be filled with the spoils of a successful trick or treating.

And this year, I'm using carved out pumpkins as vases for dahlias (place a glass jar inside so the water doesn't leak on the table linen) and I'm deploying the bud vases as candle holders. Simply add a sprig of fern or greenery of  your choice and finish with a ribbon.

With my table dressed to perfection, it only remains for me to think about my outfit. It will probably follow my maximalism over minimalism mantra echoed in my decor.
I'll report back!

Enjoy your Halloween!

I'm so impressed with beauty insider Sarah Creal's eponymous makeup range which is finally available in the UK. The Eyes Up Creamy Kajal Longwear Linersare the best eyeliners I've ever used. Genuinenly. They glide on, don't pull the skin and create a smoky eye in seconds that does not budge. I've stocked up in many colours.

Jo Malone x WildWash Orange & Cedarwood Dog shampoo is a treat for pampered pooches and humans alike as bathtime rewards us with soft cuddles and a very delicate orange blossom aroma. Suitable even for sensitive scalps my Winifred adores this and I do too. It's a great Christmas pressie for pet lovers but stock up as stock is limited.

Olverum's iconic Bath Oil has recently been given the Royal Warrant which is a much deserved reflection of this product's excellence and commitment to the highest standards of craftsmanship. Originally owned by a German husband and wife, this magic oil was introduced to the King by his late father, Prince Philip and by all accounts the entire family are fans. It's the most soothing, calming and sleep inducing bath oil on the market with an exquisite scent of pine and eucalyptus. A bathroom essential for me too.

I'm so excited that Wiggy Kit has recently opened the doors to its own very smart boutique in London's Elizabeth Street and what better way to celebrate than treating myself to this beautiful camel Alpine sweater. It is also available online for those who are not in London.

I adore Sian Esther's collection of  pyjamas and this Autumn I've decided to treat myself to one of her new brushed cotton robes which are as snuggly as they are stylish. And of course I love that they co-ordinate so well with my teal ceramic mugs. Breakfast in style indeed.
