ABOUT DEBORAH BRETT

Passionate about creativity in every aspect of her life. After a twenty year career as a fashion journalist for The Times, Harper’s Bazaar, Red magazine and Elle, Deborah Brett retrained as a ceramicist. Since graduating Deborah has had two group shows exhibiting her decorative sculptural pieces and works on commissions from her West London studio.

Experimenting with clay, finding its limitations and then pushing them is what inspires her. Drawn to the balance between texture and colour in relation to form; Deborah works in both porcelain and oxides as well as stoneware layered with different glazes. Her bespoke bowls, platters and vase-like sculptural forms combine hand building, slab work as well as thrown pieces making them both practical and decorative. Her sculptural commissions rely on combining all these skills and layering her love of bespoke glazes and the chemical reactions these create.
